Parks, Greens & Commons
The nearest outdoor, public spaces to St John’s Hill:
Wandsworth Common – situated to the West of Northcote Road, this Common is split in half by the railway line – there is a small footbridge in the middle, to cross between the two areas. The Northcote Road “side” has a small children’s playground and plenty of space for sports, which is used by local schools and sports teams, including football, rugby and softball. The Trinity Road “side” of the Common contains a cricket field, a small cafe, a big children’s playground, a large pond (where fishing with a licence is allowed) and plenty of open space.
Clapham Common – the venue for many big outdoor events, such as the SW4 Party in August. The Common has a children’s playground near Battersea Rise.
Battersea Park – plays host to the fireworks display attended by 10,000s each November and many other events inside Battersea Evolution. The Park contains tennis courts, football pitches, a playground and a children’s zoo. Battersea Park is an 200 acre (83-hectare) green space. It is situated on the south bank of the River Thames opposite Chelsea and opened in 1858. You can contact the Parks team on 020 8871 7530
