Go Green!

ImageA new business service to help small businesses “go green” has been launched by southlondon.biz.  go-green-icon.jpg

The Go Green service, funded through the London Developement Agency (LDA) Opportunities Fund, will run until March 2009 and assist small-medium sizes businesses with their waste and energy management. Simon Menneer, Group Director at the LDA said: ”Helping businesses to improve their environmental performance is key to creating a sustainable economy for London. Through support and information services such as the Go Green programme, businesses can reduce waste and improve energy efficiency which will help to reduce their bottom line.”

Working closely with local authority specialists, a team of Greening Business Officers visit small businesses to review waste and energy resources and identify ways of minimising waste, improving recycling facilities and saving energy. The service will be available to businesses in 5 London boroughs and will focus on businesses that have not sought support from publicly funded business agencies in the past.

Businesses may also be offered small grants to help them implement appropriate solutions. Speaking about the new service, Diana Sterck, Chief Executive of southlondon.biz, said: “We are very excited about launching this new service to help businesses become more cost and energy efficient and also to support local authority and LDA initiatives to reduce impact on the environment in London. When I walk around business communities I am amazed to see the potential for recycling and improved resource management, both of which could save businesses money.”

In each of the local authorities the Greening Business Officer works closely with the environmental and waste management team in making contact with businesses and encouraging them to take advantage of the Council’s green services. The "Green" Officer looking after Lavender Hill is Greice Tavares, she has already helped Nancy Lam's restaurant Enak Enak and would like to help more small-medium sized businesses go green in our area.
