St John’s Hill Christmas Lights Switch On

Monday, November 12th, 2012

The festive season kicks off in Battersea with the annual Christmas lights switch-on event on Saturday 1st December, hosted by the Traders Association of St John’s Hill.

Visit the street during the early evening time on the 1st December, ahead of the official switch-on ceremony at 6pm on the pavement between Powder Keg Diplomacy and the FishClub restaurant, to enjoy roast chestnuts, mulled wine and plenty of Christmas shopping opportunities, as we welcome the official festive period to our corner of Battersea. Adults should certainly cross over the road to Ben’s Canteen, as they will be serving Mulled Sloe Gin with apple, plum & ginger and mince pies, in partnership with Sipsmith.

As in previous years, St John’s Hill will be transformed into the “Street of a 1,000 Trees”, as Christmas trees with twinkly lights will line both sides of the street, from Plough Road to corner of Marcilly Road. Please join us in thanking the local traders who kindly sponsor the trees, which provides the budget to ensure this festive activity can take place.

Visitors to the event last December will remember we welcomed radio presenter, tv personality and resident of Wandsworth: Mr. Johnny Vaughn to flip the switch on the Christmas lights on the Hill. We’re very pleased to report that another local celebrity will be hitting the Christmas button on the Hill this year, but we are waiting for him / her to confirm so we cannot say who it is just yet!!

As this is a community project, volunteers to help pot and distribute the Christmas trees would be most welcome – the day before and on the morning of the event. If you would like to help make this project happen, please contact our street coordinator:  emma@stjohnshill.co.uk
